A basket of flowers is a great gift for any occasion. For a gift to be truly chic, you need to put your whole soul into decorating the basket. In this article, the reader can learn how to decorate a basket with flowers.

To make such a gift, the craftswoman will need:

  • Ready cart
  • Various flowers
  • Wire

How to choose the right basket

You can purchase a basket for that wonderful gift at any homeware store. It can also be found in some flower shops. They differ from each other in shape, color and material of manufacture.

Bamboo and plastic products are very popular. Wooden and plastic baskets are the easiest to decorate. If desired, you can make such a basket yourself.

How to choose flowers and wire

You can use any flowers, it doesn’t matter whether they are fresh or artificial. It all depends on the purpose of the finished product. It is worth abandoning fragile flowers, as they may break during the process. In order to give the product a touch of Provence, you need to use wildflowers. Most often, baskets are decorated with roses, as they retain a fresh look for a long time. The wire should be purchased to match the color of the basket or decoration.

How can you decorate a basket?

The most common decoration options:

  1. We decorate only the handle;
  2. Basket rim only;
  3. We make a smooth transition from the rim to the handle;
  4. We decorate only the edges.

We decorate only the handle

Before you start working, you need to tie a wire to one edge of the handle. After this, we begin to lay out the flowers, tying and securing their stems with wire. We stop when we think it is sufficiently decorated. In order to harmoniously complete such a composition, you need to secure a small bouquet of the same flowers on the back of the handle.

We decorate only the headband

You need to create a garland from flowers. To do this, take a cord, secure one end with a knot and begin stringing flowers. When the garland is completely ready, it needs to be secured to the rim of the basket with a wire.

How to decorate the inside of a basket

In order to place fresh flowers inside you need to use a floral sponge.

Master class:

  1. Line the bottom of a wicker basket with cellophane.
  2. Soak the sponge in water for a few minutes.
  3. Place a wet sponge at the bottom of the basket and, if necessary, give it the desired size.
  4. We start inserting flowers from the center of the basket. Larger heads should be placed in the middle, and towards the edges they should begin to shrink.

When decorating such a basket, you can add other decorative elements.

Sweet basket

Gift baskets can be made not only of fresh flowers, but also sweet ones. Unlike fresh flowers, they will retain their impeccable appearance for a long time.

In order to make such a gift you will need:

  • Wicker basket
  • Candies in wrappers
  • Long skewers
  • Glue gun
  • Corrugated paper in various colors
  • Various decorative materials

Manufacturing process

Thanks to these master classes, everyone will be able to prepare an unusual gift for their loved one, and the attached photos and videos will give you many unusual ideas.

For many, hand-made things are of great value because they help create an atmosphere of comfort.

The furnishings become more original, original details appear that bring individual features to the interior.

Modern stores have a very large selection of interior accessories. Various useful little things can be quite expensive, especially when you need not 2-3 things, but a whole set of baskets, vases, paintings, etc.

For this reason, many people choose the option where they can decorate the house themselves.

You can get many advantages from such an idea - the thing will turn out beautiful and exactly what you need - it will be easy to use and fit into the overall interior. At the same time, you won’t need to spend a lot of money on it, or it will be completely free if all the materials are available.

Storage systems will always be useful in the home. Wicker baskets perform such functions perfectly. The process itself can even turn into a hobby that you can engage your family and friends with.

Paper basket

You will need not just plain paper, but wrapping paper. She could stay in the house, but if not, then she is not expensive and can be bought in large quantities. You can find it in hypermarkets, flower shops or shops with similar small items.

Brown paper looks good on curves and has a nice color. As a last resort, you can use wallpaper instead of paper; they have a similar texture.

To work you will need a machine, paper clips and glue. The paper needs to be cut into even strips and folded several times. The denser our blanks turn out to be, the more reliable our paper basket will be.

To make it more convenient to work and the product to look more aesthetically pleasing, the edges of the tape are stitched with thread. Indentations are made in the region of 5 mm. The color of the thread is chosen to match the overall color of the room. You can take black threads, they will look good with any color scheme.

In order to further secure the product, the strips are coated with glue. Silicone is best; it sets quickly.

Newspaper basket

You can make your own basket from either paper or newspapers. The principle will be approximately the same. Even decorators often use this method of decoration. Black and white stripes look quite original and bright.

Newspapers are still quite relevant today, despite digital technologies. People value them just like books—for the ability to touch and smell the print.

Many people have large stacks of old publications at home that have nowhere to be identified. It is quite possible to make a dense product out of them - it could be a fruit basket or a container for storing small items.

We will need scissors and glue. As with paper, we make a lot of blanks in the form of smooth ribbons and weave them together. To make the basket more reliable, it is lined with thick tape of any color.

Fabric baskets

Old fabric can be used to make a good laundry basket. You can also store children's toys, magazines and newspapers in it, and even use it as a cover for flower pots.

Pay attention!

For work you will need plain and decorative fabric and threads. From decorative and plain material you need to cut out 2 blanks - a circle and a rectangle. They must be the same length.

Then you need to fold 2 circles and 2 rectangles with the wrong side and stitch them. After that, we sew everything together and you're done.

Perhaps the first works will not look like a master class on how to make a basket, but with practice, you can make quite decent products that will not only be free, but also beautiful and functional.

Many housewives will agree that sometimes some things simply have nowhere to go. This is especially true for small things that seem to be very necessary in the household, but get in the way or are not always at hand. At the same time, finding a suitable option in a store can be quite difficult.

In the photo of the baskets, you can see options that are easy to make at home, completely free or for little money.

We want to invite you to create a one-of-a-kind Easter basket this spring that will be decorated with flowers. With just a little colored felt and hot glue, you can make the most chic DIY basket this spring.

For work you will need the following: a basket, hot glue gun, scissors, felt of different colors.

To create the first three-dimensional flower to decorate your Easter basket, you will need to take a long piece of felt. It must be folded in half along the fold line and secured with a hot glue gun. Now, armed with scissors, make cuts so that you get a voluminous fringe.

To create a flower bud, roll the felt from one end to the other. Secure the flower with glue.

You can create flowers this way, large or small, and in a variety of colors.

To make a voluminous buttercup bud, cut out a circle from felt, which must be cut into a spiral (see photo). To form a bud, twist a strip of felt from the middle of the circle. Secure the flower with glue.

To make a felt peony, you need to cut out several squares of felt in three sizes: small, large and medium.

Now each square needs to be shaped into a petal. Cut the scallops with scissors.

When all the petals are ready, you can begin to form the peony bud. Start collecting the flower with large petals, then medium ones and finish with small ones. Secure the bud with glue.

Don't forget the green felt leaves! The decoration will look realistic and impressive if it contains leaves of different shapes and sizes. Try not to cut out the leaves very carefully, so they will look more like real ones.

When all the flowers and leaves are ready, you can start gluing them to the basket. Start gluing the largest flowers, and use the small ones to fill the voids. And of course, glue the leaves, which should be located under the flower buds.

Now that your amazingly beautiful basket is ready, you can fill it with Easter eggs and other goodies.

DIY felt flowers:

Baskets began to be made in ancient times, when the first weaving techniques from scrap materials (mainly wicker) appeared. They were supplemented with handles or special straps for carrying on the back. Initially, the containers replaced modern bags and bags, in which food or small items are usually stored. Small baskets were called baskets. They often went into the forest with them to pick berries or mushrooms. Containers that were used as household utensils were called bodies. Nowadays, wicker baskets in the interior are used mainly to decorate the room. They simultaneously perform both decorative and practical functions, as they also become an additional storage system. Let's talk about what styles baskets are combined with and what materials they are made from.

All about baskets

Baskets are classified according to material and manufacturing technology, size, shape. They can also be closed (have lids) or open. As for the material, the following varieties are mainly used:

  • Birch bark. The top layer of birch bark is peeled and cut into thin, wide strips. They make strong but lightweight baskets and boxes. The latter used to carry firewood and other heavy contents. This element will fit perfectly into an ethnic Russian interior. Complete with log walls, homespun paths, clay “glaciers”, massive chests and embroidered pillows, baskets will help bring the atmosphere closer to authentic.
  • Willow twigs. The material was used everywhere to make wicker furniture, fences and containers. Dark willow vine, like grape vine, is flexible and durable. Baskets made from it will last a long time. As a rule, the products are large in size and are used to carry heavy contents.
  • Raffia. The material is a dense, “fluffy” rope made of natural fibers, which are extracted from the leaves of the palm tree of the same name. The baskets are soft and easy to fold. This option looks good in African ethnic style.
  • Water hyacinth. Baskets from this material are made using a special technology. The surface of the product has a specific pattern that resembles a set of facial loops knitted on knitting needles. The original decor is combined with Provence, Scandinavian style, and country.
  • Rattan. Processed stems of tropical vines (calamus) remain exotic for the domestic market. Strong baskets with solid walls are woven from twigs without the traditional Russian-style “gaps” and graceful weaves. Tall, slightly expanding containers are considered a necessary interior element in African style and a number of ethnic trends originating from Latin American countries.
  • Bamboo. Baskets made of material are light and elegant. When manufacturing, they rarely resort to complex weaving. A set of bamboo strips is usually simply stitched together with white thread. This option is ideal for minimalism and Japanese style.
  • Jute. The material is usually used to make burlap or ropes. Natural fibers have a pleasant whitish tint. Soft, pliable baskets will not hold their shape well, which can be easily corrected with the help of a frame. More often, such containers are still used as “pocket” containers, that is, if necessary, they can be rolled up and hidden until better times.
  • Plastic tapes. PVC began to be used everywhere. Plastic products are cheap, but will last quite a long time. The material can have a wide variety of shades or textures. The baskets are easy to clean and are not afraid of moisture, so they can be used in the bathroom or kitchen.

Baskets can be crocheted from knitted yarn or made with your own hands from paper, wood and even metal.

Baskets are also divided into types depending on their functional purpose. For example, jardinieres were used to store and transport flowers. Gabions, which did not have a bottom, were filled with earth or stones and were used as protection against stray bullets during military operations (replacing sandbags). Now this decor no longer belongs to the military style, but has become a universal decoration for summer cottages (instead of a fence). The wallets were soft and, if necessary, folded compactly. A shoulder hoe was used to carry hay. In large bolhuns and smaller pesters they carried food for livestock.

Options for using baskets in the interior

This simple but beautiful decorative element can decorate any room in a house or apartment. The main thing is to choose the right container in color, size and shape. Baskets look stylish and practical in handicraft workshops. They are ideal for storing yarn, pieces of fabric, accessories, bags of beads or tools for work. There is also a place for baskets in a library or office: notepads, notebooks, and temporarily unused writing instruments are stored in them. They will slightly soften solid interiors and add coziness, and make the light atmosphere even more unobtrusive and comfortable for the home.

In the hallway

In the hallway, baskets can be placed on the floor under a bench for changing shoes or mounted on the wall, like hanging shelves. In wicker containers they store shoes, accessories for their care (sponges, brushes, creams), small items near the mirror (combs, keys, wallets) or umbrellas and canes (if you use a high basket). Original sets have recently appeared on the furniture market. Instead of traditional drawers, they use baskets with side handles. The furniture really looks cozy, neat and slightly rustic. A similar set can replace the traditional “hallway”, consisting of a set of lower and upper shelves, between which there is a bench and hooks for clothes.

In the living room

A large, bulky basket with a lid will replace a coffee table in the living room. Decorations woven from wicker or birch bark are placed in artistic disorder in the room. A basket placed near the chair will serve to store a folded blanket, extra pillows or an unread book. Discs are placed in a rectangular container, which is displayed next to the niche for the TV. Backgammon, chess, monopoly and other board games, which are only available in large groups, are also placed in a basket, which is placed in the corner. A stylish solution would be a shelving unit with open shelves alternating with wicker drawers. Arranged in a checkerboard pattern, they can echo the pattern on the parquet, wallpaper or carpet.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, baskets are mainly used to store bed linen. Large wickerwork is either hidden in a closet, shelf, under the podium on which the bed stands, or placed near the bed, in a corner, in a visible place. In a bedroom in Provence style, large containers will harmonize with light finishes and an abundance of wood. Miniature baskets are used to store small items: jewelry, combs, cosmetics. They are placed on the tabletop of a chest of drawers, a dressing table, or a bedside table.

In the nursery

In a children's room, baskets will replace traditional plastic boxes. For containers, buy a separate rack in which they will all be compactly placed. Toys, books, and things are placed in baskets. For the latter purposes, it is still recommended to purchase containers made from natural material. If the children's room does not have enough space, then the baskets are hidden under the bed.

In the kitchen

Initially, baskets were only used in the kitchen. They are suitable for storing vegetables that can easily do without a refrigerator (onions, potatoes, carrots, beets), bottles of wine, glasses, glasses, other utensils, towels and potholders. It’s most convenient to use such a container instead of a drawer: it looks beautiful and takes up little space. More compact and elegant baskets are placed on the table: napkins, fruits, and spices in jars are placed in them. Wicker containers are also convenient for picnics. You can collect food for relaxation right away in the kitchen, putting it in a basket and decorating it with an embroidered or checkered napkin.

In the bathroom

For the bathroom, it is still recommended to use containers made from strips of plastic. It will last a long time, will not deteriorate due to high humidity, and is easy to wash. As a rule, the main basket of the bathroom is a container for dirty laundry. However, clean towels, household chemicals and other necessary little things will also have to be put somewhere. Pull-out baskets will come to the rescue again. Moreover, they can be made wide or narrow in accordance with the configuration of the room. On the shelf under the mirror near the sink, the chaos of combs, scissors, cotton pads and swabs can be easily organized if you buy a group of miniature baskets with lids. Each contains a specific set of tools, which are classified according to their purpose.

The baskets are very easy to care for. The surface of the product only needs to be periodically wiped with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust. If you take the container with you on a picnic, for example, to the beach, then it must be carefully shaken off small grains of sand. If necessary, a basket made of wicker or birch bark should even be vacuumed. If during a trip to the forest you carried berries or mushrooms in containers that leave stains, then get rid of the dirt using a sponge and a non-abrasive cleaning product. Of course, it is not recommended to use aggressive household chemicals, otherwise you will have to buy a new basket. Don't try to scrub away blueberry juice stains. First red, and then quickly blackening traces of this berry are practically not removed. Therefore, it is better to go on a trip to buy blueberries with a jar or plastic bucket. Baskets should not be placed near heat sources (stoves, stoves, fireplaces, heating radiators). Containers made from rattan, birch bark, or wicker will become distorted and lose their shape. Bamboo baskets are more temperature resistant. Products made from jute, raffia, water hyacinth and plastic are almost resistant to heat. Although the latter can melt at high temperatures. It is not recommended to carry heavy loads in baskets that are not designed for such loads. This is fraught with deformation of the bottom, with its subsequent separation from the walls.

Old baskets can be restored and updated. To do this, a layer of drying oil, stain and varnish is applied to the surface.

DIY interior basket

They most often make baskets from knitted yarn with their own hands. These are not ordinary threads, but textile “ropes” tied into one, which used to be T-shirts, nylon tights or blouses. Old things are simply cut into shreds of the same width. The “thread” turns out to be thick, and the weaving is dense, without openwork holes. An interior basket can be colorful, bright, combine several shades, or have a plain surface. The dimensions will completely depend on the functional purpose: the more things it must accommodate, the wider its bottom and higher the sides. To work, you only need textile yarn, a needle, scissors and a hook. Weaving begins with an “amigurumi ring”. This is what will become the middle of the bottom of the future basket. Gradually, loops are added to each row so that the bottom does not wrap up like a bowl. In a simple version, it is given a round shape. This basket makes it easier for a beginner to work with. Then they move on to circular weaving of the walls. Here the number of loops will remain the same, since such baskets usually have smooth sides, without expanding upward. Several rows before the outer edge, leave gaps for the handles. The surface of the product is decorated with a simple but beautiful “pigtail” pattern.

Conclusion

It is believed that baskets are ideally combined with flower buds. In a classic interior, a bouquet of exquisite roses harmonizes only with expensive porcelain or crystal vases. In a more “rustic” setting, wickerwork will emphasize the simplicity and elegance of wild or garden flowers surrounded by fragrant herbs. You can “store” compositions of dried plants in baskets. Living bouquets will also last a long time if collected on a floral sponge previously soaked in water. Baskets of fruit on the dining table will decorate it and give the family the opportunity to “kill a worm” before dinner. Wickerwork on terraces or in gazebos will emphasize the rustic flavor of the dacha. Coarsely woven items decorated with burlap and twine will complement the decor of a bedroom or living room. If you hang them on nails to the wall, then the container will not get underfoot, but will still fulfill its main function. Groups of hanging baskets decorate hallways and country summer kitchens.

The New Year is just around the corner and we are actively coming up with New Year's home decor and decorating our dream homes. You will soon be able to see my Christmas tree in all its glory, and many have already seen it in my INSTAGRAM(join us!).

Sometimes I don’t put up a full-sized Christmas tree for various reasons. For example, in 2015 we were away, and many years ago I simply didn’t have a Christmas tree at all. But somehow you don’t want to be left completely without home decor. Firstly, this is not decorative. Secondly, we must lift our own spirits – FACT.

That’s why I always tell everyone: no Christmas tree is NOT a TROUBLE! There are many other decor! Today I will tell you how to make such a basket so that it is beautiful, festive and atmospheric. I often do this to myself!

For such a simple decor we will need:

  • Large basket
  • Christmas tree branch garland
  • Balls and other Christmas decorations
  • Battery-powered Christmas tree garland

Let's get started. We prepare all the ingredients and supervise the assistants very carefully.

We have business for 30 minutes, but then we can enjoy it for a long time. The good thing about a wicker basket is that it is the most versatile decorative item, especially if it fits into your interior.

In winter you can put up New Year's fir branches with balls (which we are doing today), in the spring an Easter set, in the summer a beautiful bouquet, in the fall a bouquet of dried leaves... and each time the basket will look different.

STEP ONE. Choosing a color palette to decorate the basket. I settled on gold with the addition of pastel colored balls.

TIP: Always choose a specific color scheme. this way your composition will become very stylish and modern! Don't limit your imagination to just balls. Fairy-tale characters, fruits and flowers are great companions!

We bring down the toys from the mezzanine and select the most suitable ones for such decor.

Here's some advice from me: decide on the main central figure of the decor. What will it be? Just balls, or some intricate vintage toy, or like my harlequin...

Choose toys that are not very large in size, since you will not have a basket with the Hermitage, and you should not overload it with huge balls. 1-2 large, eye-catching decorations are quite enough.

STEP TWO. We prepare the basket and “fluff” the garland. Where to get a garland: you can buy a ready-made one, or you can make it yourself from an old broken Christmas tree (I have exactly the same story).

STEP THREE. We put the garland “artistically” in a basket, wrap the handle with spruce branches...

Let's make sure everything looks nice and even from the outside. If necessary, secure the garland in the right places with rope, tape or wire.

STEP FOUR. We hang and arrange New Year's decorations. We try to build a beautiful composition.

In the basket you can put bright oranges along with balloons, cinnamon sticks, an aromatic candle... there are a lot of options - use your imagination!

In winter you can put up New Year's fir branches with balls (which we are doing today), in the spring an Easter set, in the summer a beautiful bouquet, in the fall a bouquet of dried leaves... and each time the basket will look different.

STEP FIVE. We step aside and examine our work with a critical eye. Do you like everything? If not, we modify it, decorate it, and swap toys.

HOLIDAY NEW YEAR BASKET– it’s important, creative and interesting! Great evening with the kids. They really like this activity, and the basket can also be a wonderful gift for friends, colleagues or a “mobile” decoration for the office, your office - there is no limit to your imagination!

Now we put it on the table, console, window sill and enjoy!

My cart is ready - what about yours? :)))

I made a selection of Christmas baskets from Pinterest - ideas to steal beautifully!
