Gel polish coating involves a three-step system, which begins with the application of a base - usually a transparent thick coating. The gel polish base allows you to level the nail plate and prepare it for applying pigmented polish. This product is the first step towards creating a durable and perfectly even coating: it not only acts as an adhesive element for the coating, but also protects the nail plate from the rich color composition of the gel polish itself, smoothing out the nail scales.

What is it

In the professional language of nail artists, base means the first (base) layer, which must be applied before the varnish and cured in a UV or LED lamp. After the polymerization process, or hardening of the base, a colored layer of gel polish is applied. The last, third step is to use the topcoat and dry it in a lamp.

The base and top are necessary to create a long-lasting and durable coating without cracks and to prevent chipping. The base is applied to the previously prepared nail plate: cleaned with a special buff and degreased with a cleanser, often masters additionally use a primer for better adhesion of the composition to the nail. The purpose of the base is to ensure high-quality adhesion of the nail surface to the color of the gel polish, secure it to the plate and ensure long-term wear. The base certainly protects the stratum corneum from pigment penetration and loss of naturalness.

Every woman dreams of having beautiful well-groomed nails today., and confirmation of this is regular visits to the manicure salon and the choice of coating your nails with gel polish. After applying the base, the nail plate becomes dense, uniform in texture, protected from the destructive effects of the pigment. Thanks to the first layer, you can restore the architecture of the nail plate, give it an anatomically correct shape, and increase its thickness. A correctly formed nail plate looks elegant and laconic; the gel color coating lays down in a smooth layer, which provides a natural glossy shine.

A high-quality base and a good gel coating last a long time, but sometimes cause difficulties in removal. Experienced craftsmen began to apply a square of varnish before gel polish in order to facilitate the process of removing the long-term coating. The “square” technique involves applying transparent varnish to a previously degreased nail with indentations of about 2-3 mm from the edge of the plate and skin. In this case, a regular transparent varnish is used, for example, a strengthening one. After it dries, apply a regular thick gel polish base.

The camouflage rubber base has such a dense and pliable consistency, which allows you to smooth out all the imperfections of the nail plate. The modern pace of life, ecology, dietary habits - all this affects the appearance of nails, which are not ideal and heterogeneous in texture. In order for gel polish to last for a long time, you should use a high-quality base and top coat - this will guarantee the safety of your nails, rich pigments and long-term wear of the coating.

The best base for gel polishes is rubber for a number of reasons:

  • She provides ideal adhesion to the nail plate;
  • Has a thick texture and lies on the surface in an even layer;
  • She protects the marigolds from penetration of coloring pigments;
  • Thanks to the rubber base you can restore or create an anatomically correct shape of the nail plate;
  • The base is absolutely harmless and does not cause a negative effect on the nail, does not affect its further quality if the coating is removed correctly.

Species

Leveling

It usually has a transparent dense texture. It serves to give the nail plate uniformity: The base hides cracks, grooves and other imperfections in order to create a perfectly smooth surface for applying gel polish. Leveling bases also differ from each other in terms of the main component, which is selected based on the initial state of the nail plate, its density, length, and appearance.

Colored

Has a light tint. Colored bases are usually used to create French manicures and have a light pinkish tone.

Without the use of this product, it is impossible to imagine long-term coverage, even though there are “3 in 1” gel polishes: base, polish and top in one bottle. Although this will ensure quick application, the longevity of such a product is questionable.

What is it for?

Using a base is a mandatory step in the three-step procedure for applying gel polish. It is needed in order to:

  • Provide a strong grip between the nail plate and pigmented gel polish;
  • Strengthen the nail surface and protect against penetration of coloring pigment;
  • Level out imperfect plate surface by filling microcracks and grooves with a composition (usually rubber-based);
  • Provide long-term wearing gel polish;
  • Enhance the shine of the pigmented composition and add richness to the shades;

Is it possible not to apply under gel?

The classic scheme for applying gel polish implies the mandatory use of either a base coating. The base is applied to a previously prepared and degreased nail, fixed by polymerization under the influence of UV rays. It adheres the coloring pigment to the nail, acting as an intermediate protective layer. It is impossible to imagine applying gel polish without a base. Firstly, such a coating will not last long, and secondly, after such manipulation there is a high probability that the natural color of the nail plate will take on the shade of the used gel-varnish hybrid.

Modern manufacturers of nail products have created a single-phase gel polish coating that combines these three components: base, pigment (varnish) and top. The products are applied in 2-3 layers, like a regular varnish, polymerization occurs in a UV lamp similar to the classic gel format. A similar method can be useful for home use: fast, convenient, practical. However, only a few think about the time of wearing such a covering: it usually does not exceed one week. Which coating to choose: single-phase or classic three-stage, depends on the woman’s preferences and her ability to update her manicure if necessary.

Women often wonder if it is possible to do without a finish. Top coating– another mandatory point when working with gel polishes. It fixes previously applied coatings, gives a glossy shine or makes the nail matte, and protects the varnish from chips and scratches. The combination of top and base provides nail protection and a complete coating, protects against chips and cracks, gives a rich color to the gel pigment and ensures long-term manicure wear for up to 3-4 weeks. The advantage of using a base and top is that the gel coating lasts much longer: manufacturers claim 2 weeks, but in fact women wear it for up to 3-4 weeks, depending on the natural growth of the nails. In addition, the base strengthens the nail plate and forms its correct shape thanks to the distribution of layers.

Why does it slide

The main reason why the base rolls off and lies unevenly is the lipid film on the surface of the nail. To ensure uniform coverage, the nail plate must first be treated with a soft buff and degreased using a cleanser and lint-free wipes.

Compound

Rubber

The most popular under-gel base has a thick, dense texture, is well distributed over the surface of the nail, does not flow under the cuticle. Thanks to the rubber base, you can work on the shape of the nail plate by adjusting the density and thickness of the coating. Using a rubber base, the most durable coatings are created: the base fills imperfections on the nail plate, evens out the surface of the nail and makes it perfectly smooth; it provides excellent adhesion to the next layer - pigmented gel polish.

A rubber-based base strengthens the nail plate, which is naturally thin or prone to brittleness and bending. The traditional drying time for such a product is about 1 minute.

Silicone

An innovative base for silicone-based gel polish is traditionally produced in the form of a sticker. It allows you to remove long-term coating without damaging the nail. The silicone base is applied to a previously leveled nail plate and treated with a cleanser (degreaser): you need to select a sticker with a similar nail shape, stick it on a clean, dry surface, and remove the residue with a file. The silicone sticker is easily fixed on the nails and perfectly aligns and compacts their structure. After the sticker has been fixed, you need to level it and remove any air bubbles that have formed using an orange stick, carefully smoothing the surface with the tool.

It is often used on damaged, brittle nails and in cases where women are afraid to use a classic coating.

Acrylic

To strengthen the nail plate, use a classic base and acrylic powder– a synthetic material that has found its application in nail extensions and their correction. After shaping and degreasing the nail plate, a regular base and immediately acrylic powder are applied, then the nails must be dried in a UV lamp for adhesion and hardening of the materials. Acrylic base is used to strengthen and give strength to thin, brittle nails. There are transparent, white and colored powders, which are often used to create an original nail design and strengthen 2in1.

Gel based

This type of base often combines a base, gel polish and top coat., that is, it is a single-phase product for creating a long-term durable coating. All bases for gel polish are based on gel; they have the texture of this material, which ensures their easy application and the ability to adjust the thickness.

With vitamins

This type of gel polish base is used for brittle, damaged, thin nails. Such compositions are enriched with vitamin E to stimulate the natural process of cell renewal and, as a result, strengthen the nails.

Water based

This type of base does not apply to gel polish coating, but there is a lot of talk about it today. A water-based base is used before applying classic pigmented varnish, which dries naturally. Such products do not contain potential allergenic chemicals, which means they are suitable for allergy sufferers, pregnant women, children, and adolescents.

  • Another rubber product to create anatomically correct nails is presented by the brand Naomi. It differs in that it is both a base and a top at the same time. The brand's assortment includes a classic analogue for performing the first stage of applying gel polish, created to strengthen and protect nails and provide better adhesion to the pigment.

  • KomilfoAmerican brand, producing a base for gel coating. It is applied as a classic varnish or using the drip method, the latter is necessary for the formation of the nail surface and its compaction. The base is used to create the shape of the nail, and it can also be used to extend nails up to 1 mm in length.

  • An inexpensive foundation is presented by a Polish brand Aura. The product has a non-dense texture, which allows you to maintain the natural thickness of the nail plate and not overload it with excessive weight.

  • The classic rubber base is in the line Royal to create the perfect gel polish coating. By the way, the brand’s line includes a base with a less dense texture to protect the nail and ensure better adhesion of the layers.

Alignment of the nail plate

The technique allows you to form a natural, correct shape and restore damaged plates. The dense texture of the base for rubber-based gel polish allows you to give your nails an elegant shape, give them density, volume, and turn flat, unsightly plates into beautiful nails. There are several techniques for leveling the plate using a classic base and using acrylic powder. Let's consider the first method, the most common and accessible to perform even at home:

  • It is necessary to prepare the nail plate for applying the base: give it a shape, remove the cuticle, treat it with a buff and degrease it using a special composition - a cleanser;
  • Next apply a thin layer of base and dry it in a lamp;
  • Then apply a drop of dense base to the middle of the plate and using a thin brush, stretch it to the tip, the movements should be stroking and abrupt towards the end at the same time;
  • Afterwards, be sure to turn your finger over so that the nail “looks” at the table (palm up). To make the shape natural, adjust the volume of the plate in this position and leave it in this position for a while so that the gel fills the grooves;
  • Dry your nail in the lamp.

For the leveling procedure to be successful, you must use gel polish with a dense texture., rubber bases are ideal for this. Women often ask about how many layers of base to use. This depends on the initial state of the plate and its density. If the nails are very thin, two layers are enough, the first of which is applied using the classical method and dried in a lamp, after which the plate should be properly coated again using the drop method. Do not forget that you must first degrease the surface to prevent the base from rolling off and to apply it evenly. Besides, The first thin layer of base will serve as a good basis for further application.

To make sure that the coating is even, turn your hand palm up and evaluate the new shape from this angle: it will show a smooth transition of the plate from the end to the center. The correct correction will be indicated by a glossy, uniform shine on the surface, which is easy to check thanks to good lighting.

Before applying the base for gel polish, it is necessary to treat the surface of the nail plate with a buff and then thoroughly degrease it;

  • If the covering is being assembled or rolled up, then this is the first “bell” about insufficient treatment of the nail and the presence of a lipid film on its surface;
  • The base is applied only to a dry nail., otherwise it will begin to blur and lie unevenly;
  • How to tell if the base is dry: dry it in the lamp for 1-2 minutes depending on the power of the accessory;
  • It must be dried at maximum lamp power. and for the period of time recommended by the manufacturer.

How to choose

The choice of base should be based on the initial condition of the nails and the desired result. Rubber base is used for:

  • Creating the correct curved nail shape and natural curve;
  • Filling the grooves and cracks;
  • Seals;
  • Protection plate from ingress of gel pigment;
  • Creating a denser thick texture.

A classic base with an unsaturated medium-density texture is suitable for healthy, naturally strong nails. In any case, its use is necessary before applying the gel polish itself, regardless of how long you plan to wear it.

What to replace

In a three-stage gel polish application system, it is impossible to replace the base. Ignoring its use will lead to unstable and poor-quality coating., damage to your own nails by staining them with pigment. Nails will become brittle and thin if you neglect the base for gel polish. Women are wondering if it is possible to replace the base with a regular firming foundation. If you plan to use gel polish and a lamp, then you cannot replace the base intended for this procedure.

The procedure for applying gel polish consists of three main phases: base, gel polish, finish. We would like to note that the durability of the coating and the duration of wearing the manicure depend on the top layer.

Why is it worth choosing a rubber top-fixer, how does it differ from the classic one, and what are the application features? We'll talk about this in the article.

Rubber top is an integral coating for gel polish. Nail artists almost immediately fall in love with the new type of finish and become admirers for a long time. And it's not hard to believe.

The rubber topcoat is thick and viscous, which greatly simplifies the application process.

This texture is suitable for beginners, because it does not spread over the nail and does not flow onto the cuticle - rubber-based products are optimal for learning.

In addition, there are numerous advantages of such a tool:

  • Self-leveling - the top spreads over the nail plate, providing an even, smooth finish.
  • Lack of yellowness - white gel polish and light pastel colors often suffer from the finish coat, acquiring a yellowish tint over time. This does not happen with a rubber finish; the transparency of the coating does not change and the color does not go away.
  • Durability - the top lasts much longer than the classic version, does not chip or crack.
  • Beautiful shine – a high-quality top does not lose its shine even a couple of weeks after application, making the manicure look expensive and impressive.

The rubber topcoat takes a little longer to dry than a classic topcoat - from one to three minutes. It all depends on the lamp used (LED or UV), as well as the product manufacturer’s recommendations.

Rubber top: with or without adhesive layer

There are tops without a sticky layer that do not require degreasing the surface. This is convenient, and also reduces the cost of materials used for manicure.

This type of coating is suitable for owners of strong nails - it is characterized by increased strength and resistance to chips.

But the top coat for gel polish with a sticky layer is much more elastic and softer, so it is optimal for thin, easily bendable nails - a finish without a sticky layer in this case will instantly become covered with cracks.

Particular pleasure and convenience comes from a non-sticky finish in a manicure using small details. Where it is necessary to paint small surfaces and it is inconvenient to go over a napkin with a clinser.

Application secrets

Both the classic and rubber finish apply the same way. After applying a layer of gel polish, it must be thoroughly dried, and then proceed to use the top coat.

It will be useful to remember a few simple rules:

  • You need to move from the middle of the nail
  • Excess fixative is removed using bamboo sticks
  • To remove the coating, use a special solvent or nail polish remover - the product is applied under the foil
  • It is recommended to use a top from the same company as the base.

Manicure products based on rubber are dense and durable, practically do not spread over the nail and are easily distributed.

Review of popular rubber tops

A detailed review and comparison of products from leading manufacturers will allow you to choose the best option for yourself.

  • Rubber topCody

One of the most famous brands - it is with it that gel polish manicure is most often associated. The convenient shape of the brush simplifies the work, the top is dense and flows off the brush very slowly. This texture is ideal for smoothing out the nail.

You need to apply the product very carefully, carefully distributing it over the surface of the nail plate. The fixative is durable and of good quality, and is used economically. But in order to extend its service life, it is important not to forget to tighten the bottle after use, otherwise the product will begin to bubble.

Cody rubber top comes in different volumes: 7, 12 and 14 ml.

  • Finish BLUESKY

Those who have previously used the classic BLUESKY top will appreciate the rubber-based product. The shape of the brush remained unchanged, but the texture of the fixative became thicker. It is easy to apply - the finish seems to spread independently over the surface. The shine lasts for a long period of time.

The coating is perfect for those with thin nails that are prone to brittleness. Bluesky Shellac does not chip and is well suited even for those who are disappointed with the period of wear of top coatings from other manufacturers.

  • TNL professional rubber top

The rubber-based finish manufactured by TNL has earned hundreds of positive reviews. A flat brush of medium width with even bristles - this tool is optimal for carefully applying the fixative, thanks to its fan-shaped opening.

TNL rubber sealant is not too thick. Unlike the Cody topcoat, which practically does not drip from the brush, this finish is easy to apply. It does not bleed onto the cuticle when applied carefully, but such a topcoat is not suitable for straightening nails.

Thanks to the presence of special UV filters, the application of the coating protects the gel polish from yellowing and fading in the sun. An excellent choice for pastel colors and French manicure.

  • Vogue rubber

Vogue fixative is used very economically - just apply a thin layer and dry it thoroughly. It only takes 30 seconds when using an LED lamp, or 2 minutes in a UV lamp.

The brush is thin, but the bristles open easily, which simplifies the application process. The coating is well distributed on the nail plate, resulting in a perfectly smooth surface.

How does a rubber base differ from a regular one?

To answer this question, let's look at what it is rubber base and what is it for?.

With the advent of the material for manicure in the nail industry - gel polish, all the components for this procedure appeared, namely: the base and top (finish) for the gel polish.

In a classic three-phase gel polish system It is necessary to apply before the color coating, which serves as a substrate for the color. From the beginning it was liquid bases, which lay thinly on the nail plate. In the process of development, the gel polish system has become so widely used that the need arose to improve this system.

Since there are two ways to remove gel polish: dissolving it with a liquid or filing it off, often after removing the gel polish, many clients began to complain that their nails became thin, brittle and flaking. Gel polish can always be applied to artificial extended nails with gel, acrylic or biogel. Gel polish in its structure is more suitable for. Therefore, the next step in the development of gel polish was the creation of a new base, more dense, which can also be modeled on the nail, compacting it, creating architecture. The new base has become akin to biogel, only in a bottle with a brush called Rubber Base for Gel Polish.

Pros and Cons

Is rubber base really good for nails or is it just another trick from manufacturers?

When creating the new product, perhaps no one suspected that it would become so popular among nail service professionals and would become one of the TOP 10 nail materials.

The base really has advantages over a regular liquid gel polish base.

Let's look at all the pros and cons:

The rubber base has a more viscous structure, so it does not flow under the cuticle and side ridges.

From -due to its viscous consistency, you can cover all 4 nails of one hand without bleeding, which saves work time.

Seals thin nails, but leaves them flexible. Due to this, the nail plate does not break, but grows along with the base.

When removing gel polish, there is no need to remove the color and part of the base with a file or, then apply the base again to the grown part and cover the entire nail. In this case, the nail does not become thinner and is not injured.

Due to the rubber base, the nails become thicker, which may not be pleasant for those who have strong natural nails.

When working with a rubber base, beginning craftsmen without experience may have difficulties. The viscous base must be stretched and aligned along the nail. Leveling nails with a rubber base is a separate course, which is often taught in special courses and seminars even by experienced nail technicians.

How to properly apply a rubber base is at least worth watching a training video from experienced teachers. And if you can’t do it, it’s worth taking a master class at a good school of beautiful business.

Popular brands

What brands do masters and beginners use when choosing a rubber base?

Basically, everyone focuses on 2 parameters: price and quality. If this compliance is achieved, then the master can buy a rubber base even of an unknown brand. Still, there are popular brands that both masters and beginners want to work with.

Mega advertised brand Kodi It is famous precisely for its rubber base. Every master, coming to the store, says: “You have a rubber base Kodi ?. The only pity is that most people do not know that the main part of this brand is fake. But not everyone is concerned about the quality of the material; the inscription on the bottle plays an important role.

Many craftsmen are very fond of the company’s rubber base UNO . A well-advertised base with a price category above average. Let's hope that the quality of this brand does not suffer the same fate as its predecessor.

It is worth paying attention to the company’s not so advertised rubber base IRISK Professional . High quality does not come with a high price. It meets all the characteristics Premium material at an average price. The base is available in 4 shades: transparent ( Rubber Base ), pink (Rubber Pink), natural (Cover Pink ), . A very convenient volume of the base: in order to try, take 10 ml, for work - 20 ml, for those who like to take in reserve and save - 50 ml.

Brand Bluesky produces a rubber base for gel polish with good characteristics, we recommend using it for beginners.In addition, it has a budget price - 140 rubles.

Over the past few years, the popularity of gel polish has steadily continued to grow due to the rich and expressive color of the coating, the variety of color palettes of CND shellac and other leading brands, and its amazing resistance to chips and cracks. Many of us prefer to use a three-phase gel polish system, since the sequential polymerization of each applied layer allows us to achieve ideal coating quality. When purchasing materials for home manicure, pay special attention to the choice of base, since the first layer of coating protects your nails from being stained with colored pigment and ensures reliable adhesion of the decorative coating to the nail plate. Innovative new products in the nail industry include a rubber base for nails, which many of us have already heard about, but not everyone yet knows how it differs from a regular base. From this article you will learn what advantages a rubber base for gel polish has and how to properly apply this coating to your nails at home.

The base contains rubber and, due to the thick consistency of the product, the molecular bond between the nail plate and the keratin scales of the hardened coating ensures reliable adhesion. It is important to remember that before applying the base layer, you must very carefully remove all remnants of keratinized cuticle from the nails and treat their surface with a degreasing agent. By the way, along with the base, many women also buy a rubber top, which hardens very quickly in a UV lamp, reliably protects the manicure from damage and retains a glossy shine for 2-3 weeks even after repeated contact with household chemicals. Already established mid-price brands that produce rubber bases and tops include Bluesky, Uno, Kodi, Irisk, Grattol, and ruNail.

♦ BENEFITS

Unlike a regular base, rubber is highly elastic and does not allow the gel polish coating to peel off along the edges of the nail plate and near the end of the free edge;

The thick texture of the rubber base does not spread and lies evenly on the nail plate, leveling its surface and masking defects;

The base layer completely prevents the color pigment of the gel polish from staining natural nails and the penetration of active coating substances into the nail;

Rubber-based base and top are very easy to work with - the coating layer is applied in one motion and does not require additional correction along the edges;

The base layer dries quickly in a UV lamp (40-60 seconds) and hardens evenly over the entire surface of the nail;

The impeccable appearance of the manicure is maintained throughout the entire period of wear. The surface of the coating does not fade or become cracked or chipped;

During nail growth, the coating area along the cuticle line shifts plastically and the strip of the regrown plate is practically invisible;

Decorative coating with rubber protects long, brittle nails from damage and strengthens them;

It is not necessary to prime your nails before applying the rubber base coat;

The rubber base differs from the usual high-density adhesion to the surface of the nail.

♦ HOW TO CORRECTLY APPLY RUBBER BASE ON NAILS

▪ Before applying the base layer, you need to properly prepare the nail plates. We trim the nails with scissors and use a nail file to give the free edge the desired shape; soften the keratinized layer of the cuticle in a warm hand bath and remove the overgrown cuticle;

▪ Use a buff to remove the glossy layer from the surface of each natural nail, wipe the nails with a lint-free cloth and degreaser;

▪ Apply the rubber base to the nail in a thin layer, starting from the middle of the nail and lightly rubbing the product in with a brush;

▪ Dry the base layer in a UV lamp for about a minute (polymerization time depends on the power of the lamp). The sticky dispersion layer cannot be removed after polymerization;

▪ Then we apply several layers of colored gel polish, each of which is dried in a lamp;

▪ If the finishing coating is rubber, then apply a thin layer of top coat to the surface of the plate and seal the end of the free edge.
