How to properly wash a soldier's fur hat. How to clean or wash a fur hat. Rules for knitted hats

Of course, over time, any fashionista will have a moment when his hat does get dirty. Therefore, the question is very relevant..

Nowadays a huge number of different hats have appeared, so it is simply impossible to find the only correct way to wash them. It all depends on the material from which it is made. Of course, every housewife is concerned with questions: should she wash her hat in the washing machine? Is it possible and how to wash fur hats and wool hats? Which
What's the best way to use it?

Washing a fur hat

Yes, a fur hat can get dirty just like everyone else, but you should be careful when washing it. It would be more correct not to wash it, but to clean it. After all, you are unlikely to risk an expensive fox hat or a children's rabbit hat as much as an ordinary knitted one.

First of all, you need to remember to take care of the lining of the hat, which can crack and eventually simply deteriorate. Traces of sweat often remain on the lining, which should be removed with a degreaser. If you have a fur hat with a knitted base, then first remove stains with a foamed degreaser and laundry soap.

Simply mix one spoon of dish soap with soap and then apply to dirty areas. Afterwards, let the hat dry and rinse everything off with warm water.

Wash knitted mink hats the same way. If this is an expensive mink hat, then only a few tricks that can be used at home will help you cope. Naturally, it’s easier to take it to the dry cleaner or buy an expensive special product, but try to save money and handle it yourself. If the hat just needs to be refreshed or cleaned of dust, then sprinkle it with ground oatmeal. They will behave like a sorbent and collect all the dirty particles. You will just need to comb the remaining powder out of the cap. Rabbit hats and natural sheepskin hats can be cleaned using this method.

Knitted hat

By the way, they can also be different and, accordingly, the washing methods are also different.

If this is a hat made of woolen threads, look at their composition on the label. If this is a natural wool product, then it should only be washed by hand in warm water with a special powder or gel for wool. Try not to rub it, and then dry it unfolded in a well-ventilated area.

Wool cap

There is one good rule for washing natural wool and mohair hats. If a woolen item is washed in hot water, it may shrink. That is why such items should only be washed in cold water. Then they need to be dried only when stretched to their actual size. For example, acrylic hats, like woolen ones, can be dried on mannequins or balls. This way they won't lose their shape.

Drape hats should be washed in the same way. In addition, do not forget to keep the felt sauna caps that you wear in the sauna clean, because they are also made of wool and this is how they are washed.

Artificial fur

Of course, such hats are popular nowadays because they are fashionable, inexpensive, stylish and very comfortable. People love to wear them, but we must not forget about their cleanliness. You will need a few simple tips. It happens that such hats have fur trim in the form of pompoms or earmuffs. When washed, these accents need to be separated from the hat and then sewn back on. And the hat itself can be washed in a machine in warm water with a spin cycle of less than 800 rpm and a special gel for woolen items.

Army hat

A military hat with earflaps or an army hat can be washed in the same way as faux fur hats. Remove all accents and badges and wash in warm water. After that, smooth it out and dry it in a warm, dry room.

JoeInfoMedia journalist Marina Korneva suggests finding out: the secrets of preserving the color and quality of your favorite things.

In recent years, the winter weather has made it possible not to use warm hats, but there are days when you simply cannot do without a good knitted hat. The lining of the product gradually gets dirty from contact with our head. The outer layer and surface do not become cleaner either.

A reasonable question inevitably arises: how to wash a hat without stretching the wool threads or ruining the fur pompom?

Before washing knitted items, find out what yarn was used for knitting

Knitted items made from synthetic threads are washed according to the list of conditions indicated on the label or in the attached instructions. For handmade items, the washing method and temperature should be indicated on the paper slip with which the yarn was wrapped.

The synthetic knitted hat can be washed in a washing machine on a delicate cycle. The detergent is selected based on the recommendations of the yarn manufacturer. Before washing, the item is packed in a mesh bag for washing woolen items. Squeezing at any intensity is not recommended, as the item will stretch and lose its original shape.

Natural wool hats can only be washed by hand. To do this, you can use the following sequence of actions:

  1. Fill a small container with water at a temperature of up to 30-35 °C. If you are afraid of ruining the product, then use only cold water, both for washing and rinsing.
  2. Add and stir detergent into the water. It is better to use a special gel for washing wool or regular laundry soap, which dissolves in water in the required amount.
  3. Dip a small section of the hat into the water and see if your item changes color. If shedding is not observed, then completely lower the product and lightly hold it in water so that it absorbs water.
  4. Leave the cap on for 2-3 minutes. Then lightly rotate the product in the basin and turn it over. Repeat the steps and soak the product for 15-20 minutes.
  5. When the time is up, drain the dirty water. Take out the item, wait until the water drains on its own and rinse the hat under the tap. If it is possible to use a shower, then this will only rinse out the detergent in the best way.
  6. After rinsing, lightly squeeze the product with your hands. It cannot be twisted or deformed. Then you should put the hat between two terry towels and squeeze it lightly. You can leave the item for 10-15 minutes.

Drying knitted hats should only occur naturally. It is best to hang the product from the top. You can direct a fan or hair dryer at minimum power without heating the air.

How to clean fur and knitted pompom?

If possible, it is better to tear off the pompom while washing

Pom pom hats made from synthetic fibers are washed according to the instructions on the label. If the pompom becomes matted, you will need to comb it using a regular knitting needle to restore its original shape. You can use a comb or a seam ripper, which can be purchased at any sewing store.

A fur pompom on a knitted hat cannot be washed with the item. How then to wash a hat with a fur pompom? There are two solutions to this problem. You can try to carefully rip the pompom from the main product, and after washing, sew it back in its original place.

If this is not possible, you will need to wrap the pompom in plastic. To do this, it is better to use a solid and durable plastic bag, which should be tightly secured to the top of the product.

Wash the hat only by hand. During the cleaning process, you should check whether the dressing has loosened. If a little water gets inside the bag, it will not have much effect on the fur and will not damage it. During drying, the polyethylene can be removed, gently shake the item and comb the pompom.

What to do with a mink hat?

Mink products are not washed, but cleaned by hand

Washing a natural mink hat in the usual way is strictly prohibited. This applies to both products made from solid pieces, sewn to fit, and hats made from fur ribbon.

This is due to the fact that in the process of making such things, fur is processed, which leads to strong stretching of the underside (inside). Subsequently, when a large amount of water gets in, the underside begins to absorb it very quickly.

Moreover, there are a lot of things that, upon subsequent drying, will definitely lead to the core hardening and cracking. And the product itself will turn into a shapeless piece of fur. More precisely, there will be some form, but it will no longer be able to hold on independently, without the support of the frame.

Therefore, only wet cleaning using various means is suitable for natural mink fur. For example, you can use this method:

  • The lining fabric is peeled off from the product and will need to be washed or replaced. Stitching places are marked with a light marker.
  • The inner surface of the cap should be inspected. If there are any loose seams or small holes. They need to be sealed before cleaning the product. Don't neglect this: it will extend the service life.
  • Afterwards you will need to take 100-150 grams of wheat bran and add the same amount of hot water. Next, stir the mixture until it becomes a paste and cover with a lid. After 60 minutes, drain off any remaining water.

This mixture can be used to clean fur. More precisely, it’s not even a mixture, but swollen semi-dry bran. Don't worry - it won't damage the fur. The bran is rubbed into the fur of the product with gentle movements so that the particles of the mixture get onto the entire pile and undercoat.

Then the hat is combed with a regular wooden comb or a brush with soft bristles. After this, the product is turned upside down and shaken well to remove any remaining bran. The process is repeated until the product is cleaned.

After all procedures, the product should be dried thoroughly. To do this, you can stuff the cap with terry towels or white crumpled paper. Once the product has dried well, you can sew on the lining.

How to clean a hat without washing?

Hats made from other types of fur should be cleaned with slightly different mixtures. Dark-colored furs can be cleaned well with a slightly damp mustard powder. Products made from white furs are best treated with a mixture of starch and ammonia.

The following solution is suitable for cleaning any types of furs:

  • 1 liter of cold water;
  • 50 ml of pure alcohol;
  • 20-30 ml lemon juice;
  • measuring cup of wool conditioner.

The ingredients are added to the water and mixed well. Next, take a slightly damp brush or cotton swab. To clean fur, wipe the pile in different directions. It is advisable that at the end of cleaning the fur is combed with a brush in the direction of natural growth.

For drying, you can use the already familiar method - paper or a towel according to the shape of the product. Can be put on a large jar. Drying with electrical appliances is not permitted.

Hats, like all other wardrobe items, need to be tidied up from time to time. However, they are often made from very capricious materials, and we have to ask questions about how to wash a hat, how to clean dirt from a certain type of fabric, and in general, whether it is possible to wash a hat yourself if it is made of threads that require delicate treatment.

First of all, you should know that ways to wash hats of almost any type at home have long been invented. Of course, some of them involve a certain risk of ruining the item, but if you are careful, this should not happen.

How to wash a synthetic knitted hat

A knitted hat should and can be washed according to the recommendations indicated on the label sewn on the inside. And they, in turn, are based on washing rules for various materials. If you knitted the hat yourself, instructions should have been included with the threads or yarn.

A hat made from synthetic materials can be machine washed by placing it in a washing net. The washing method and detergent must be selected based on the specific material. But it’s safe to say that if you choose the delicate mode, you can’t go wrong.

How to wash a wool hat

A wool hat requires careful consideration. However, putting it in order after wearing it is not at all difficult.

Wash it by hand in cool water - up to 35 degrees. Add special detergents for woolen items. If the hat is very dirty, you can pre-soak it for 1-2 hours. In difficult cases, when soaking, you can add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar to the water. It is important to avoid contrasting temperatures - this can cause a natural wool hat to shrink.

How to wash an acrylic hat

Acrylic is a rather delicate material that should never be rubbed when washing, otherwise pellets will form on it. It should be washed at a temperature of no more than 30 degrees, using detergents with an antistatic effect. It is strictly forbidden to twist or squeeze. Just wrap the item in a terry towel.

How to wash an angora hat

Regular powder or liquid is not suitable for washing angora products. You can take simple shampoo or add laundry soap to water and add a teaspoon of glycerin, which is sold at the pharmacy. To prevent the delicate fluff from matting, you cannot rub such a hat when washing it, and it is strictly forbidden to wring it out. Use a large terry towel to remove excess moisture from the hat.

How to wash a mohair hat

Shampoo is suitable for washing a mohair hat. Instead of conditioner, you can use hair rinse, or you can add a little vinegar to the water instead. To remove excess moisture, wrap the hat in a towel. To make the hat more fluffy, it is recommended to put it in a bag and put it in the freezer for a while. Frozen water crystals will fluff up the fibers from the inside.

How to wash a pompom hat

If the pom pom is made from the same material as the knitted hat, there is no reason to clean it separately. After washing, comb the pompom. If the threads are very matted, use a knitting needle to separate them.

If the hat decorations are made of fur, you will have to tear them off before washing. If this cannot be done for some reason, wrap the pompom tightly in a bag and cover the place where it is attached with rubber bands so that water does not reach it. Then wash the hat by hand. If a little bit of water gets on the pom pom, it will most likely not be damaged.

How to dry a hat

Whatever your hat is made of, it's best not to try to wring it out after washing. To prevent water from flowing from it, use a terry towel - just wrap the item in it without twisting it.

A synthetic hat can be hung on a rope by the pompom. But still, the best way to avoid deformation for all knitted hats is to lay them out on a towel to dry.

How to stretch a hat after washing

To stretch the cap after shrinking, you can use a vinegar solution. Add a couple of tablespoons to a bowl of water, immerse the item in it, and then pull it onto an object close in size to your head.

The hat stretched after washing: what to do

Unfortunately, there is little chance of saving such a hat. You can try washing it at temperatures above 60 degrees, and then dry it, shaping it into the desired shape on a towel. But there are no guarantees that the hat will fit you again. To prevent stretching, follow the care conditions for the material from which the hat is made, wash it by hand, and if you put it in the car, be sure to use a mesh cover.

Cleaning a fur hat or a hat knitted from a fur ribbon is the most difficult task at home. It is recommended to peel off the lining and wash it separately. And the fur part cannot be immersed in water - after that it will shrink very strongly, and the hat will have to be thrown away.

Long fur can be cleaned mechanically by combing it with a special brush. Short fur, such as a mouton, can be wrapped in damp gauze, and then shaken well to dislodge the dust stuck between the hairs, which will settle on the gauze.

If mechanical cleaning is not enough, you can use traditional stain treatment methods. The easiest one is to use shampoo. Pour a little into the water and whip up the foam. Then scoop some foam onto a sponge and gently scrub the fur, being careful not to wet the base of the hat.

A solution of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide also helps clean the fur. Add a teaspoon of peroxide to 200 g of heated water. Add a few drops of ammonia there. Using a spray bottle or cotton swab, moisten the fur with the mixture. After drying, comb it well.

The answer to the question of how to wash a mink hat at home has also long been found. It can be cleaned with bran. You will need 1.5-2 cups of wheat bran and approximately the same amount of boiling water. Pour water over the bran and let it swell. Drain off excess water and apply the resulting mixture to the cap. Then comb the fur well and shake it.

Talc or potato starch will help restore the whiteness of light-colored hats. They need to be applied to the fur and then combed out. You can treat the white cap with a swab moistened with hydrogen peroxide and water in a 2:1 ratio.

Whether we like it or not, when the cold season comes, we have to take out a hat from the far corner of the closet and put it on when going outside. Naturally, the inside of the product will regularly get dirty from skin and hair. On the other hand, the top layer is also constantly polluted from exposure to the external environment. Therefore, one day the need for washing or cleaning inevitably comes. Along with this, the question arises of how to properly wash a fur hat and get rid of dirt. If you do not study the information about this and do not use it, but simply throw the product along with other things into the washing machine, then after drying it may become unwearable.

How to wash a knitted hat

If not washed correctly, a knitted hat tends to change in size: it will stretch or, on the contrary, shrink. But with a careful and careful approach, the item can retain its original appearance.

The first thing you need to know and consider is that it is not recommended to soak a wool hat. If there are stains, you should treat them with alcohol or a solution prepared before use, consisting of water and ammonia in equal proportions.

The water temperature should not exceed thirty degrees. A special detergent is dissolved in it, which is intended for washing wool items. Liquid detergents are also suitable in this case, since they not only do their main task well, but also will not spoil the shape and color of the product.

The hat is placed in water and gently washed with crumpling movements for two to three minutes. It is forbidden to rub it or twist it at the end, as otherwise the hat may stretch greatly and lose its attractive appearance.

After washing, rinse it in water at least four to five times until the liquid with it becomes clear.

During the last rinse, add a little fabric softener to the water and leave it in the basin for a quarter of an hour to drain excess water.

Under no circumstances should you dry a wool hat on warm or hot radiators or a rope. In the first case, there is a risk that the product will shrink, and in the second, on the contrary, it will stretch. Dry it on a flat surface with a clean cloth or put it on a three-liter jar. You can also use a hairdryer.

The washing machine has a special “wool” mode. By setting it or another mode, “delicate wash”, and also setting it to thirty degrees, in principle, you can wash a knitted hat there too. In this case, spinning should not be used. As a last resort, you can leave the minimum speed.

How to wash a fur hat

Fur products look very impressive and beautiful. However, if you do not care for them correctly, then after a while the fur will lose its attractive appearance and fade. This is a clear sign that the item needs to be cleaned.

To remove minor dirt and dust, the product is simply cleaned, then ventilated and dried, preferably in the fresh air. Of course, it cannot be washed in the usual sense of the word. Natural adsorbents, for example, semolina and starch, cope well with dirt and dust.

They will clean a hat with light fur even better. Light particles pass freely into the pile and collect all the dirt. At the same time, they will not damage the color and structure of the fur in any way. Pour semolina or starch into the pile and carefully rub all areas as if they were being washed. At the end, shake the product and comb out the residue with a soft clothes brush. You can also use a vacuum cleaner for this purpose.

A more serious method must be used when global cleaning of the product is required. This is done as follows:

  1. It is necessary to tear off the lining. You can mark the places where it was sewn, so that later it will be easier to carefully sew it back. It is washed and ironed separately. If it has completely lost its appearance, then they sew a new one, trying it on with the old lining.
  2. They take the hat and turn it inside out, carefully examining it. If there are cracks, they need to be carefully mended and sealed with adhesive tape. Then they will serve properly for several more seasons.
  3. To clean, place a fur hat on a jar, dilute starch with gasoline until it reaches the consistency of a slurry, and rub in. After treating the surface, leave the hat for a quarter of an hour, after which the remnants of the used product are cleaned off with a brush. This must be repeated until pure starch remains.
  4. At the end, after thorough shaking and combing, the hat is dried in the fresh air, but so that direct sunlight does not reach it.

To make the fur shiny, it is rubbed with glycerin and then combed.

If there are stains on the product, they are removed in different ways depending on what they were applied with.

If the cause is sweat, then a solution is needed, which is then used to wipe the stain. The recipe for its preparation is simple: a teaspoon of salt and the same amount of ammonia are mixed in five hundred milliliters of water.

Grease stains are wiped with a cloth soaked in gasoline. At the same time, if the product is short-haired, then you should move against the pile, and if it is long-haired, vice versa.

Yellowish spots on light-colored pile are sprayed with hydrogen peroxide with the addition of ammonia from a spray bottle, and then dried in the fresh air, even in the sun.

A mink hat can also be cleaned in several ways, depending on how dirty it is.

For cleaning, you can use regular shampoo. Then the product is wiped with soap foam, and then removed with a damp sponge. Instead of shampoo, you can use liquid soap or wool cleaner.

In this case, you need to be very careful so that the foam does not soak into the leather base. Otherwise, the hat risks being reduced in size after drying. In addition, getting wet too much will worsen the condition of the fur, making it tougher and the fibers less elastic.

If the specified cleaning products are not found, then you can use other available products found in every home that will also do an excellent job of the task. For example, salt and alcohol are used. To do this, prepare a solution in the following way:

  • A tablespoon of salt is dissolved in a glass of water;
  • add two tbsp. spoons of alcohol;
  • Wipe the hat with a brush or sponge.

They also use vinegar, soak a cotton pad in it and treat the item.

Glycerin will help restore the shine and fluffiness of the product, after processing which the fur is thoroughly combed.

When using any product, the product must be dried only naturally without the use of a hair dryer or other heating devices. It is best to do this outdoors, but in the shade so that direct sunlight does not fall on the hat. After drying the product, its pile is combed again.

The white hat will have to be cleaned more often than others, as it will get dirty faster. To prevent the color from fading and the fur from deteriorating, you need to know how to clean it.

In the city, the hat will in any case darken due to smog and dust. However, getting rid of this pollution is not at all difficult. You just need to sprinkle the pile with talcum powder, lightly rub in and leave for two to three hours. After this, the cap is shaken, and the remaining adsorbent is removed with a brush. Instead, you can use starch or semolina. Starch, by the way, is able to adsorb even greasy stains from oil.

Hydrogen peroxide diluted in water will help with yellowed fur. The surface of the hat is sprayed with the solution or treated with a moistened sponge, and then hung out to dry in the fresh air. This method will be effective for cleaning not only natural, but also artificial fur.

Knitted hats with a fur pompom look very cute and funny. Most often it is attached with tape to make it easy to remove for washing. One way or another, it is highly not recommended to wash the product with a pompom. If it is sewn, it is better to cut it and attach it with tape after washing.

The Arctic fox pom-pom can be cleaned with the following solution: dissolve a teaspoon of ammonia and three teaspoons of ordinary salt in five hundred milliliters of water. The fur is thoroughly moistened and then combed.

The rabbit's pom-pom can be combed out with a comb, and the yellowness on the white fur will disappear if it is sprayed with hydrogen peroxide or moistened with vinegar.

In addition to wool and fur, there are other fabrics from which beautiful hats are made. In order for them to retain their attractive appearance for a long time, it is necessary:

  1. It is possible to wash a fleece product in a washing machine by setting the “delicate wash” mode, or even better, by hand in not hot water, adding a liquid detergent.
  2. Drying is done naturally.
  3. The white cap can be cleaned with starch or semolina with several repetitions.
  4. Hats with fluff need to be treated with special care: it is better to buy a special product for this or clean them with magnesium and aviation gasoline, sold at the pharmacy; Apply the solution with a sponge, being careful not to touch the lining, and after processing, shake the cap.
  5. Fur products are not washed at all to prevent them from cracking.

After washing, rinse the hat at room temperature without twisting it. Excess water is removed by wrapping the product in a terry towel and then stretching it over a jar. You can stuff a towel into it to help the hat dry faster. When lumps form on the fur, they are removed with nail scissors. If the stains are too heavy, and if you cannot get rid of them yourself, it is better to take the hat to the dry cleaner.

Even those people who do not like hats take hats out of their closets in winter. From contact with the scalp and hair, the lining of the hat becomes a little greasy, and the top of the hat gets dirty from street dust and the touch of hands. Sooner or later, the question arises of how to wash a hat correctly so as not to spoil the thing.

Woolen garments must be washed very carefully, because they can stretch or, conversely, shrink and fade. How to properly wash and dry a wool hat?

Washing knitted items

If there are no problems with washing hats made of artificial thread, then how to wash capricious wool? Such items should only be washed by hand, strictly observing a number of important requirements.

Proper drying

After washing, the wool should be wrapped in a terry towel and lightly pressed with your hands - this will remove excess moisture. This thread absorbs odors very well, so it should be dried in a ventilated area. Then the knitwear is hung by the top on a rope.

You cannot dry clean wool near heating devices, and especially on a radiator. If dried incorrectly, the item will shrink and become deformed. The wool should dry only naturally.

If the headdress is made of fluffy mohair, then it is simply wrung out, wrapped in a bag and sent to the freezer for several hours. The remaining water will freeze in the thread, and the mohair will become much fluffier after drying.

Product with pompom

Very often, woolen headwear is decorated with a fur pompom. How to wash such a product so as not to spoil the fur? Everything is much simpler if the pompom is made from the same thread as the headdress. But if it is fur, then it needs to be tightly tied in a bag and tied tightly with a rope so that water does not seep under the bag.
After this, the headdress is washed in the usual way, being careful not to get the bag wet. When the garment dries, the bag can be removed and the fur combed.
