Non-working holidays

Non-working holidays in the Russian Federation are:

  • January 1-6 and New Year holidays;
  • January 7 - Orthodox Christmas;

  • March 8 - International Women's Day;
  • May 1 - Holiday of Spring and Labor;
  • May 9 - Victory Day;
  • June 12 - Day of Russia;
  • November 4 - Day of National Unity.

As a rule, when Saturday or Sunday coincides with the holiday, the day off is transferred to the next working day following it. For the rational use of weekends and holidays, according to a special decision of the government, other transfers may occur: for example, if the holiday falls on Tuesday, then Monday is sometimes made a day off, and the previous Saturday is a working day. Also, the day off can be carried over to any other days of the year.

The offices of most companies and many museums are closed during the holidays, however large shops usually work, but according to a special schedule.

In addition, the so-called professional holidays dedicated to specialists from various fields of activity are usually celebrated in Russia. For example, on February 10, diplomatic workers are congratulated, on March 19 - for submariners, on April 27 - for notaries, etc.

Holidays in Russian regions

The subjects of the Russian Federation have the right to proclaim their own holidays and weekends.

So, in Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Adygea, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia and Chechnya - in the regions where a large number of Muslims live, non-working holidays are:

  • Kurban Bairam, the holiday of the end of the Hajj in Mecca, is celebrated on the 10th day of the 12th month of the Zul Hijj according to the Islamic calendar (dates are shifted every year, because, unlike the Gregorian calendar, which counts the year according to the revolution of the Sun around the Earth, Islamic focused on the phases of the moon);
  • Uraza-bairam - a holiday in honor of the end of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan, is celebrated on the 1st day of the month of shavval.

In the Republic of Yakutia, everyone rests on the pagan holiday "Ysyakh" - a celebration in honor of the summer and the revival of nature (celebrated between June 10 and June 25, the date is each time appointed by special decree).

In the republics of Buryatia and Kalmykia, people do not work during the Buddhist triumph of Tsagan Sar: the beginning of the new year and the beginning of spring are celebrated in January-February on the day of the new moon.

Also, in most constituent entities of the Russian Federation, a day dedicated to the formation of each republic is a non-working holiday.

Congratulations on March 8

Surprisingly, the tender spring festival once had a political motive. Communist Klara Zetkin in 1910 organized and led the women's movement for equality. Under her leadership, women socialists held annual events in Denmark, Austria, Germany, Sweden, and Russia.

With the collapse of the USSR, the holiday remained, changing only irrelevant status. Now this day was dedicated not only to revolutionaries, but to women in general. Love and beauty, respect for the weaker sex, our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters. In the post-Soviet space, it was considered unnecessary and canceled in the Baltic states and Georgia, but in 2007 he returned to Latvia. In Tajikistan, the date is associated with Mother's Day.

  • Mongolia
  • China
  • Laos
  • Angola
  • North Korea
  • Cambodia
  • Uganda.

In our country, it is customary to celebrate a holiday not only in the family circle, but also among friends, in the work collective. Corporate parties in enterprises, as a rule, are organized the day before. Women are congratulated with flowers, poems, sweets and gifts.
